# Appointment Breaks

### What Is the Appointment Breaks Action?

The Appointment Breaks action allows you to record periods of time when you paused work during an Appointment or Shift.

### Creating a Break

1. Tap the **Appointment Breaks** button from the Appointment or Shift actions menu.
2. Enter the details of your break, including:
 * **Start Time**
 * **End Time**
 * **Category** (if your organisation requires one)
 * **Notes** (optional, to provide more context)
3. Once the fields are completed, tap **Save**.

{% hint style="info" %}
In order to maintain the parameters of an Appointment, **Maica** will not allow you to create an Appointment or Shift Break outside the `Date` or `Time` of the Scheduled Appointment.
{% endhint %}

### Managing Breaks

After saving, your break will appear in the **Appointment Breaks list** for that Appointment or Shift. From here, you can:

* Tap a break entry to reopen it.
* **Edit** the details if something needs to be updated.
* **Delete** the break if it was added in error.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.maica.com.au/maica-knowledge-base/mobile-worker-app/appointments-and-shifts-actions/appointment-breaks.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
