# Create an Appointment

Learn about the process of creating a new Appointment within Maica

## How do I create an Appointment?

A quick and efficient way to create [Appointments](/maica-knowledge-base/getting-started/maica-key-concepts/appointment.md) is directly through the Maica [Planner](/maica-knowledge-base/the-planner/planner-overview.md). Maica has an interactive mechanism where you can drag and release your mouse on the Planner to prompt the creation of an Appointment.

Creating an Appointment depends on which [View](/maica-knowledge-base/the-planner/planner-views-and-modes.md) you are in within the Planner. You need to be in the `Schedule`, `Participant`, `Asset` or `Accommodation` View to create an Appointment, otherwise you will [create a Shift](/maica-knowledge-base/shifts/create-a-shift.md).

## Standard and Legacy experiences

Maica offers two experiences for creating and managing Appointments. The experience you see depends on your organisation's settings. If your screen does not look like the one described in these pages, contact your administrator.

| [Legacy Experience](/maica-knowledge-base/appointments/create-an-appointment/legacy-experience.md)     | A series of stages, each covering one part of the Appointment, completed in turn before the Appointment is confirmed                             |

## Pre-populated fields

When creating an Appointment, a number of fields are pre-populated. These fields depend on the Planner view you are in when the Appointment is created. The pre-populated fields for each view are outlined in the table below:
